PENTHOUSE PAUPERS

AUSTRALIAN PRESSING 1ST EDITION

“Penthouse Paupers were a Melbourne independent Rock band in the mid to late 80′s, with a classic Aussie pub, rhythmic rock sound characteristic of the era. Their eponymous debut, released on the Grown Up Wrong (Dog Meat Records) label, reached #9 on the Indie charts in 1987. This was followed up with the single, “Same Place Twice” in 1988 which reached #11 on the Indie charts.[1]

The Paupers were part of a scene which include the Huxton CreepersPainters and Dockers, the Cracked Jaffers, the Puritans and others who helped contribute to the Melbourne sound which bands like Jet (band) reflect two decades later. Their live career spanned five years, performing close to 200 gigs, including headlining at classic Melbourne venues such as the Punters Club, the Prince of Wales, the Palace, the Esplanade Hotel, the Club and others. The Paupers also shared the bill with classic acts such as The TroggsHunters and CollectorsScreaming Tribesmen, and TISM.” (Wikipedia)

Ian Collard is currently a member of blues-rock bands the Backsliders and Three Kings.
